to Robert LaPalme, founder and director of the Montreal International
Salon of Cartoons, in 1970, an entry was submitted by an unknown foreign
cartoonist from the Canadian city of Toronto. The cartoon received the Grand
Prix. Later, however, it was discovered that it was a plagiarized version
of another award winning cartoon from a Belgium festival. The prize money
by then was sent to Saul Steinberg's New York address, the address
the cartoonist had given on his entry form. |
