STUDY: Beijing College of Education majoring in Fine Arts. WORK:From 1980,
he has been working at China Daily as Art Editor and become Senior
Editor and Manager of Art Department since the 1990s at this only one English
daily published by the Chinese government. EXHIBITIONS: Since 1981, Zhang's
cartoons were selected for the Social Phenomenon Cartoon Exhibition (Beijing)
in 1987 and 1988; Chinese Cartoon Grand Show in 1988 and 1993 (Beijing);
Hong Kong Chinese Arts Exhibition in 1990 (Hong Kong); The 2nd International
Cartoon Exhibition in 1990 (Japan); China West Lake Art Festival in 1991
(China); and the International Cartoon Exhibition in 1992 (Brazil). His
cartoons were exhibited in all major exhibitions held in China, and also
internationally exhibited in Brazil, Turkey, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong
and Taiwan. AWARDS: National News Cartoon Award in 1987, 1991, & 1993;
China Journalistic Prize in 1992; Capital News Art Award in 1992 & 1993;
Beijing News Award in 2001. PUBLICATIONS: Among others, cartoons of Zhang
were published often in the People's Daily, China Daily, China Youth
News, "China Cartoon Collection," "The Finest International
Political Cartoons in Our Time" (USA), "Best Cartoon Selection
in China 2000," "China Daily News Cartoon Collection," etc.
Six of Zhang's personal cartoon collections published include: "Focus
and Plane," "Mr. Q in the Stock Market," "Ladies and
Gentlemen: Don't Be Shy." MEMBERSHIPS: Chinese Artist Association (CAA),
Cartoon Art Commission of CAA, Secretary General of China Journalistic Cartoon
