Jürg "JÜSP" Spahr (1925-2002)
Sagno, Switzerland, June 29, 2002 - Jürg Spahr, who began his manifold career in 1946
in Basel, Switzerland, died of heart failure in March, only a few days after
his own wife had passed away. JÜSP, as he was known to his friends
and readers, was a recipient of the unique New Yorker 'Cartoons for
Peace Award' the American 'Distinguished Cartoonists Award' and was twice
honored with the Italian 'Dattero d'Oro' award. From 1978 to 1995 he served
as appointed curator of the international Sammlung Karikaturen & Cartoons
in Basel. During his career he created 10,000 cartoons, many of which first
appeared on the pages of the famed Swiss satirical magazine, Nebelspalter.
