Borderline stories
Warsaw, Poland, July 14, 2002 -
A British web magazine dedicated to comics, Borderline,
has published articles in its no. 11 and 12 issues about Polish comic artists.
Illustrated articles witten by Witold Tkaczyk and Dennis Wojda
describe the Polish comics since 1945, but, much more properly, the stories
keep their focus on the younger generation. Within the past year, over 30
new monthly titles were published in Poland compared with only five one
year ago. Positive developments on the Polish comics
scene
Warsaw, Poland, January 24, 2002.
The Polish comics market has suddenly grown up. Since the Fall of 2001 many
good comic books have come off the presses, including "Hellboy"
by Mignola, "Maus" by Art Spiegelman, "El Borbah"
by Burns, and "Rork" by Andreas. Other better known
titles followed, such as "Usagi Yojimbo," "Nathan Never and
Dylan Dog," and the "Nikipol Trylogy" by Bilal. Polish
classic authors, among them Christa and Chmielewski, also
came out with new editions. In other comics news, Polish students from several
Polish colleges are choosing a candidate for the Alpha-Art Prize in Angouléme,
where the biggest European comics festival is taking place from January
24 to the 27th. For the first time, Poles are also taking part in the voting.
The CNBDI director's visit to the Polish Books and Comics Fair in Kraków
is probably credited for this welcome development. Tkaczyk honored
Lodz, Poland, January 22, 2002. Witold Tkaczyk has been awarded by TYTUS prize, which was established in the
year of 2000 for the most effective promoters of Polish comics. Tkaczyk
received the prize back in October, during the Lodz International Comics
festiwal. TYTUS is a traditional Polish comics hero, created by Chmielewski
in 1957.
