Croatian "Cafe" in Polish pub
Gubin, Poland, January 22, 2003 -
"Tercet" a pub in Gubin, Poland, will be the place for an exhibition of satirical drawings by Tomislav Dusanic of Croatia. Dusanic is head of the "Cafe Kino" gallery in Osijek, back in his homeland. The nearly 40 drawings will be on show for a month..


Tradition goes on
Zagreb, Croatia, January 22, 2003 -
A traditionaly (New-) yearly exhibition of Croatian Cartoonists Association members opened in the Fortezza Gallery, in Zagreb. This year, the "Mladen Basic "Bibi" award for life contribution to cartooning was given to Ivan Pahernik Paha.


Croatian Caricatures in a popular Austrian restaurant
Klagenfurt, Austria, January 22, 2003 -
Petar Pismestrovic of Austria has portrait caricature exibition together with his Croatian colleague Miroslav Gerencer in Klagenfurt. On show are 65 caricatures in the Konoba restaurant. Opening remarks were given by Kleine Zeitung editor Reinhold Dotollo. The exhibition, which received wide media attention,will stay open until the end of April.


Torino artist has one man show in Osijek
Osijek, Croatia, November 2, 2002
- The 22nd cartoon exhibition was opened in Osijek’s Cartoon Gallery last Monday, representing the work of Italian cartoonist Gianni Chiostri. The 53 old artist was born and still live in Torino (Turin), Italy. His work is currently published in numerous newspapers and publications, among them Avvenire, Il Giornale, La Stampa, and Amadeus.

In other gallery related news, “Udruga Ljubitelja Karikature Donji Grad, Osijek” a cartoon fan club of Osijek's lower town was recently legally established. A short name for the club “Ljubitelji Karikature, Osijek” (Cartoon Fans, Osijek) was registered on the 15th of October. Because of the various bureaucratic difficulties the gallery faced, thirteen of its most loyal supporters formed a legal entity. They are: Tomislav (Tod) Dusanic, Aleksandar Markovic, Stela Dusanic, Mirjana Glavas, Vlado Dalmatin, Sabina Obranic, Katica Delac, Silva Filipovic, Dino Pernar, Goran Varadi, Tomo Delac, Goran Orgonas, and Visnja Dusanic.


Reisinger wins award commemorating the war in Croatia
Podravka, Croatia, October 28, 2002
- The fourth cartoon exhibition with the topic "They were the first when it was needed," was organized by the Association of Defenders, Invalids, and Widows of the War. This year, for the first time, the event was international and an award was given to the best author. The works of 34 cartoonists from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Poland graced the walls of the Koprivnica exhibition-room. The exhibition is open for visitors until 6th November. Oton A. Reisinger was unanimously chosen for this year’s laureate.

New book in Croatia
Zagreb, Croatia, October 25, 2002 - Branko Mestrovic and Stanko Zmazek, two members of Croatian Cartoonists Association, have finished their book of cartoons titled Dva Mestra (Two Masters). Each of them published around 150 of their latest works. Zmazek is represented by his gag cartoons while Mestrovic offers his portrait caricatures.

Pismestrovic has solo exhibition in Croatia
Osijek, Croatia, September 7, 2002 - The Galery of Caricature Cafe Kino's 20th exhibition was opened last week. The exhibition showcases the work of famed Croatian cartoonist and caricaturist Petar Pismestrovic who now lives and works in Austria. Pismestrovic has contributed to more than 40 weekly and daily publications, had 25 one-man-shows and took part in many collective exhibitions around the world. Among the many awards he received, most outstanding are the ones from Tolentino and Ancona (Italy), Zagreb (Croatia), Beograd (Serbia) and an "Excellence prize" from Tokio (Japan). He has been working for the Austrian daily Kleine Zeitung since 1992. Pismestrovic' work was published in various books, among others: The Finest International Political Cartoons of our Time (USA), Politik fur das dritte Jahrtausend, a book published on the occasion of the 60th birthday of Alois Mock, Hohles Haus, a book of quotations from the sessions of the Austrian parliament, and his own books: Partija pokera, and Pismestrovic - karikature in Klagenfurt, Austria. The exhibition was organized by cartoonist Tomislav Dusanic - Tod, also manager of the Osijek cartoon gallery. (See samples of Pismestrovic' work on our editorial/political cartoon pages).


German cartoonist has show in Croatia
Osijek, Croatia, August 28, 2002 - The Osijek Cartoon Gallery cafe Kino (9 Cvjetkova Street) opened an exhibition titled "Minimalism," showcasing the work of German cartoonist Frank Hoffmann. The recipient of 20 awards, Hoffmann lives in a small wine-growing village near Mainz. The exhibition was opened by Ivan Vrkic, chairman of the board of Glas Slavonije, Inc. Media Center and was given a ceremonial presentation by the Tamburica-orchestra Baranjski Biseri from Knezevi Vinogradi, under the direction of Vlado Dalmatin. In his opening speech Vrkic said that the best tactics against nonsense is a cartoon. He also proclaimed that every small place can be made into a small center of the world by organizing international events that bring global concerns, laughter, and reason to the nearest neighborhood. The gallery's next exhibition will highlight the works of Petar Pismestrovic.
