Raquel Orzuj Uruguayian Desk Raquel Orzuj was born in Uruguay. She started out as a "serious" artist in the Torres Garcia Workshop. She won numerous prizes, including the Gran Premio Nacional "El Azahar" and the Premio 250 Años Ciudad de Montevideo." Her paintings were part of a show titled "Famous Paintings of Uruguay" in Taipei, Taiwan and are seen in 23 other museums around the world. She started drawing cartoons and creating humorous art in 1977, when she first entered the Montreal International Salon of Cartoons Contest. Since then she participated in competitions and shows in Japan, Russia, Bulgaria, Belgium, France, Turkey, Yugoslavia, Spain, and Great Britain. She won the "Gran Premio del Milenium" prize in Argentina and the "Golden Helmet" prize in Yugoslavia.
