Maurice Horn Advisory Board Maurice Horn is an internationally recognized authority on comics and cartoons. He was co-organizer of the first exhibition held at a major museum, "Bande Dessinée at Figuration Narrative," at the Louvre in Paris. He also organized the exhibition "75 Years of the Comics" at the New York Cultural Center.
He has lectured on comics and cartoons at universities worldwide, and his European series of lectures in 1973-74 was printed in Information et Documents, the official publication of the American Center in Paris. He has written hundreds of articles on the subject for American and foreign magazines and has contributed to Collier's Encyclopedia, Oxford University Press' American National Biography, and to The International Encyclopedia of Communication, as well as to Microsoft's on-line Encarta Encyclopedia. He has edited a number of reprints of classic American and European comic strips, and has received many awards and honors in the field.
Many of the books he has authored or edited have become standard reference works in their field. He is the editor of The World Encyclopedia of Comics (2nd ed., 1998) and The World Encyclopedia of Cartoons (2nd ed. 1999). In addition he has edited 100 Years of American Newspaper Comics and the multi-volume Contemporary Graphic Artists. He is co-author of A History of the Comic Strip and author of 75 Years of the Comics, Women in the Comics (2n ed. 2001), and Comics of the American West.
