Miroslav (Gero) Gerencer

Miroslav Gerencer was born in 1948 in Osijek, Croatia. He is a freelance artist who has been engaged in cartoon art for more than twenty years. Gerencer is member of the Croatian Association of Cartoonists as well as FECO. He is a regular contributor to Croatian puzzle-writing magazines Feniks and Skandi Feniks, the humor magazine Kerempuh and he publishes his work in the Swiss humor magazine Nebelspalter. Besides working for periodicals, Gero (his pseudonym) illustrates books, calendars, and posters.

He had a number of one man shows in Croatia and his work was displayed at various group exhibitions in Croatia as well as Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Turkey, Cyprus, Iran, Israel, Poland, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Korea Japan, Taiwan, Argentina, China, Romania, and Hungary.

His book of portrait caricatures titled "Face next to face" was published in 1995.

Gero's numerous international prizes include a Special Prize in Anglet, France (1992); an Honorable Mention from Tolentino, Italy (1993, 1999); an Excellence Prize at the Yomiuri International Cartoon Contest inTokyo, Japan (1998); an Achievement Award, from Daejeon, Korea (2001); and an Honor Prize, from the Chinese Free Cartoon Web Competition (2002).
