Hüseyin Çakmak Turkish Cypriot Desk Hüseyin Çakmak was born in 1964 in Nicosia-Cyprus. He started to draw cartoons in 1976 under the influence of the Turkish Gir-Gir humour magazine. He opened his first private cartoon exhibition in 1983 in Nicosia-Cyprus. His cartoons have been published in various newspapers and magazines in Cyprus as well as in many countries of the world. He was one of the four founders of the Cypriot Turkish Cartoonists Association which was established in 1986. Since then he has been the President of this Association. His works have been exhibited in more than 50 countries and they have been published in international cartoon albums. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the Union of Cypriot Turkish Journalists Association and was its Secretary-General for a period. In 1987 he was sued by the Prime Minister of North Cyprus because of a cartoon, published in Ortam (with a compensation demand of 200 billion Turkish Liras). Many international organizations protested this trial which took 6 years and five months to complete. In the end, he was found not guilty. Since 1988, he has been Vice- President of the Federation of the European Cartoonists Organisations (FECO). Çakmak has won 52 awards in various national and international cartoon contests. He has been jury member of many national and international cartoon competitions. He is the editor-in-chief of "Akrep" (Scorpion), a Turkish Cypriot magazine of humour and cartoons and serves as the editor of Cyprus for Feconews. He has published articles and studies on the art of cartoon and humor in Cyprus, in various national and international press organs, and took part in various symposia. He was an assistant-editor of "WittyWorld's Illustrated Directory of International Cartoon Festivals, Competitions, and Awards," published in the USA in 1994, and "A Short Summary of Turkish Cypriot Cartoon" album in 1999.
