Javad Alizadeh

Javad Alizadeh was born in 1952. He earned a B.A. in English Translation. Alizadeh is a self-taught cartoonist who has been drawing since 1970 with a complete devotion to the genre. He founded the independent Iranian monthly cartoon magazine Tanz-O-Caricature (Humour & Caricature) in 1990 and has been serving as its publisher and editor-in-chief from the beginning. His cartoons have been published in leading international newspapers and magazines via C & W Syndicate. He has worked in various genres within cartooning, such as: caricatures, editorial, black humour, comic strips, sports, surrealistic, gag, philosophical, and 4-D humor. Alizadeh has won one national and sixteen international prizes. Among them are a First Prize in Caricature at the Anglet Festival (France1990) and a Silver Date of Bordighera (Italy 1996). He also served as member of different juries including the Skopje (Macedonia) Cartoon Festival in 1986, the Anglet (France) cartoon festival in 1991, and the Tehran Cartoon Biennials in 1993, '95, and '97.
